# YoPingMe as a Better Stack alternative: an honest comparison

> Better Stack's free plan is genuinely good - 10 monitors, a status page. When the platform is worth it, and when a plain multi-region pinger fits better.

Better Stack is the strongest modern entry in this category, and its
free plan is real: you can monitor a small site well without paying
them anything. If this page talks you out of trying it, it has failed.
The honest question is a different one - whether you want an incident
platform or a pinger.

## What does Better Stack's free plan include?

As of July 2026: 10 monitors and 10 heartbeats with 3-minute checks,
one status page, and email and Slack alerts. The faster 30-second
intervals, SMS, and unlimited phone-call alerting sit in the paid
plans. Beyond monitoring, the same platform carries incident
management, on-call scheduling, logs, and telemetry - that breadth is
the product.

Growth is where the meter starts: as of July 2026, additional monitors
are sold in blocks of 50 at $25/month ($21 on annual billing), and team
access to the wider platform is priced per responder seat at $34/month
($29 annually). Fair prices for what you get - but a different
commitment than a free tool.

## How is YoPingMe different?

YoPingMe is a monitor, full stop. No on-call calendar, no log
ingestion, no seats. The free plan is the whole product today, and its
one structural advantage is that you choose the regions each monitor is
checked from, and an alert waits for a second region to agree.

| | Better Stack Free (Jul 2026) | YoPingMe Free |
|---|---|---|
| Monitors | 10 (+ 10 heartbeats) | 10 |
| Check interval | 3 minutes | 5 minutes |
| Fastest interval | 30 seconds (paid) | 5 minutes is the only speed |
| Status page | 1 included | Not yet (on the roadmap) |
| Heartbeat / cron checks | 10 included | Not offered |
| SMS / phone alerts | Paid plans | Not offered |
| Check types | See their documentation | HTTP, keyword, SSL, ping, TCP |
| Regions per check | See their documentation | 2 regions per monitor, chosen from five probe locations on three continents |
| Alert rule | - | A second region must agree before anyone is paged |
| Alert channels (free) | Email, Slack | Email, webhook, and Slack |

Read the table both ways: on raw free-plan specs, Better Stack wins
several rows - faster checks, a status page, heartbeats. YoPingMe's
free plan answers one question with unusual rigor: is the site actually
down, or does it only look down from one place? Nothing pages you until
a second region agrees, and you pick which regions those are.

## When should you pick which?

**Pick Better Stack if** you want a status page today, you monitor cron
jobs with heartbeats, you'll grow into on-call rotations and incident
response, or 3-minute (or paid 30-second) detection matters to you.
It's the right choice more often than a competitor's comparison page
would normally admit.

**Pick YoPingMe if** you want monitoring without a platform attached -
no seats to count, no usage meter waiting - or your pain is false
positives, and multi-region consensus on a free plan is exactly the
cure. You pick the regions each monitor is checked from, so a site
that is blocked in one country stops raising false alarms. It's also
the simpler thing to hand a client who will never open a dashboard.

## How do I switch?

1. [Sign up](https://app.yoping.me/signup) - the wizard runs your first check
from both your regions while you type.
2. Recreate uptime checks as HTTP checks, content assertions as keyword
checks, and port checks as TCP. Heartbeats have no YoPingMe
equivalent - if your cron jobs report in to Better Stack, keep that
part there; the two free plans coexist fine.
3. Point alerts at email, a webhook, or Slack, and compare a few days
   of results before deleting anything.

Ten monitors, checks every 5 minutes from two regions you pick, no
card - and a comparison table that told you the truth about the other
guy.
