# YoPingMe as a StatusCake alternative: an honest comparison

> StatusCake's free plan looks a lot like ours - 10 monitors, 5-minute checks. Where they differ: extras vs multi-region consensus, and what paid buys.

StatusCake has been monitoring sites since 2012, and its free plan is one
of the few that survived the industry's slow squeeze on free tiers. On
paper it is the competitor whose free plan most resembles YoPingMe's,
which makes the differences unusually easy to state.

## What does StatusCake's free plan include?

As of August 2026: 10 uptime monitors checked every 5 minutes, plus one
page speed monitor, one domain monitor, and one SSL monitor. Alerting on
the free tier goes through their integrations. Paid starts at the
Superior plan - $24.49/month, or $20.41/month billed annually - which
raises you to 100 monitors at 1-minute intervals with SMS credits and
team seats. Business ($79.99/month, $66.66 annually) reaches 300 monitors
at 30-second intervals.

## How is YoPingMe different?

The free cores match: 10 monitors, 5-minute checks, no card. The
difference is in how each plan spends its complexity budget. StatusCake
gives you one each of three extra monitor types. YoPingMe gives every
monitor two regions you choose and a consensus rule.

| | StatusCake Free (Aug 2026) | YoPingMe Free |
|---|---|---|
| Uptime monitors | 10 | 10 |
| Check interval | 5 minutes | 5 minutes |
| SSL monitoring | 1 dedicated SSL monitor | SSL is a check type - use it on any of your 10 monitors |
| Page speed / domain extras | 1 page speed + 1 domain monitor | Not offered |
| Check types | Uptime, page speed, domain, SSL | HTTP, keyword, SSL, ping, TCP |
| Regions per check | See their documentation | 2 regions per monitor, chosen from five probe locations on three continents |
| Alert rule | - | A second region must agree before anyone is paged |
| Alert channels (free) | Via their integrations | Email, webhook, and Slack |
| Raw history | See their documentation | 30 days |
| Fastest interval | 30 seconds (Business plan) | 5 minutes is the only speed |

Read the table both ways. StatusCake's free plan covers more surface:
if you want a page speed number and a domain-expiry watch alongside
uptime, it hands you one of each. YoPingMe puts the whole budget into one
question: is the site actually down? Two regions you choose run every
check, and nothing pages you until both agree.

## When should you pick which?

**Pick StatusCake if** you want page speed and domain monitoring in the
same free account, you expect to grow into 1-minute or 30-second
intervals, or SMS alerting on a paid tier is on your roadmap.

**Pick YoPingMe if** your pain is false positives - a single vantage
point calling your site down when a network path hiccups - or you want
SSL watched on more than one site without paying, since SSL here is a
check type on any monitor rather than a single free slot. You also pick
which regions watch each monitor, so a site you geo-block in one country
stops paging you about it.

## How do I switch?

1. [Sign up](https://app.yoping.me/signup) - the wizard runs your first check
from both your regions while you type.
2. Recreate uptime tests as HTTP checks and SSL monitors as SSL checks.
Page speed and domain monitors have no YoPingMe equivalent - if you
rely on them, keep a free StatusCake account for those; the two
   coexist fine.
3. Point alerts at email, a webhook, or Slack, and compare a few days of
   results before deleting anything.

Ten monitors, checks every 5 minutes from two regions you pick, no card -
and a table that just told you where the other free plan covers more
ground.
