When should you pick which?
Pick StatusCake if you want page speed and domain monitoring in the same free account, you expect to grow into 1-minute or 30-second intervals, or SMS alerting on a paid tier is on your roadmap.
Pick YoPingMe if your pain is false positives - a single vantage point calling your site down when a network path hiccups - or you want SSL watched on more than one site without paying, since SSL here is a check type on any monitor rather than a single free slot. You also pick which regions watch each monitor, so a site you geo-block in one country stops paging you about it.
How do I switch?
