Pingdom vs StatusCake: an honest comparison

  • compare

Pingdom and StatusCake sit on opposite sides of the first question a buyer asks: can I start without paying? StatusCake says yes and sells upgrades; Pingdom says no and sells polish. That difference shapes everything else about them.

A note before the numbers: neither product on this page is ours. Who we are and why we publish this is at the bottom.

Does either have a free plan?

StatusCake does: as of August 2026, 10 uptime tests at 5-minute intervals, plus one page-speed test, one SSL monitor, and one domain monitor. It is a real free tier, not a trial.

Pingdom does not. There is a 14-day trial, then the meter runs. As of August 2026 its synthetic monitoring starts at roughly $10/month billed annually for 10 uptime checks, one advanced (transaction) check, and 50 SMS alerts. We could not verify these numbers on Pingdom's own pricing page directly (it blocks automated readers), so they come from third-party pricing trackers checked in August 2026 - treat them as approximate and confirm on pingdom.com before buying.

What do the paid tiers look like?

StatusCake, as of August 2026: Superior at $20.41/month on annual billing ($24.49 monthly) covers 100 uptime tests at 1-minute intervals, with 15 page-speed tests and 50 SSL monitors; Business at $66.66/month annual ($79.99 monthly) reaches 300 tests at 30-second intervals. An Enterprise tier is quote-priced.

Pingdom scales from that ~$10/month entry to roughly $249/month at the top of its synthetic range, with real-user monitoring (RUM) sold separately. It is a SolarWinds product, and the pricing model reads like it: per-check bundles, aimed at businesses that already know they will pay.

Which one should you pick?

Pick StatusCake if you want to start free and grow into a paid tier only when the site count demands it. The free tier genuinely works for a small site, and the mid-tier prices undercut Pingdom's per-check economics at similar scale.

Pick Pingdom if the budget already exists and transaction checks are the point - scripted logins, carts, and checkout flows are where its synthetic monitoring earns the price, and where StatusCake has less to offer.

The honest failure mode of each: Pingdom for a hobby site is paying enterprise polish rates to watch one homepage; StatusCake at enterprise scale is assembling from parts what Pingdom sells assembled.

Who writes this page?

This page is published by YoPingMe, an uptime monitor. Neither product above is ours and we do not rank ourselves here. If you want to see how we compare against either of them, we say so on our own pages: YoPingMe vs Pingdom and YoPingMe vs StatusCake. StatusCake numbers were checked against their public pricing page on 2026-08-26; Pingdom numbers are third-party-sourced as described above.
